Spirit on Tap – The World We Live In – Climate Change & Faith
April 26, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
“The World We Live In – Climate Change and Faith” will be the subject of this month’s Spirit on Tap on Tuesday, April 26, at 7:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Reading. The program will be presented by the Rev. Marian P. Shearer and the Rev. Dr. Harry L. Serio. It will focus on the present ecological crisis and what we should be doing about it, from a social-justice perspective and a biblical-theological foundation in creation-centered spirituality.
An ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, The Rev. Marian P. Shearer has served parishes in New York and Philadelphia and on the regional conference staff in New York State. She has been involved in eco-justice and climate issues since seminary days in the 1970s, as part of the Eco-Justice Task Force that wrote curriculum for church groups to live more responsibly. She is group leader for the Reading-Berks chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby and liaison to Rep. Chrissy Houlahan’s office for the chapter.
The Rev. Dr. Harry L. Serio was a regional organizer for the first Earth Day in the Lehigh Valley in 1970 and has led retreats on Creation Spirituality. He has worked as an archaeologist in Israel and is past-president of the Academy for Spiritual and Consciousness Studies. He is the author of The Dwelling Place of Wonder, The Mysticism of Ordinary and Extraordinary Experience, and the forthcoming The Other Side of Memory.
Spirit on Tap’s purpose is to encourage theological discussion, explore alternative views, and stimulate dialogue around issues of faith and spirituality. There is no charge and all are welcome.
