“The Lies We’ve Been Told: Using Scripture to Our Own Advantage – And Why We Lie and Accept Lies”

This program will look at the evolution of lying, and why we so easily allow people to lie to us. Then we will consider Scripture and how parts of it has been used to teach false doctrine.
Steve was born in New York City in 1960. He attended Wilmington College of Ohio and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion & Philosophy in 1982. Steve then received a Master of Divinity degree from Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, New Jersey in 1986, and in 1994, a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. His project was titled “Teaching the Ethics of Jesus in a Cross-Cultural Setting.” In 2015 Steve was awarded a PhD in Leadership from Alvernia University. His dissertation is titled, Ordination in Christian Ministry: The Nature of the Call Across Denominations.”
Steve was ordained as a United Methodist pastor in 1985 and has served churches in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In 1998, Steve received privilege of call in the United Church of Christ, and in 1999 was called as the pastor of Calvary United Church of Christ in Reading, Pennsylvania, where he recently celebrated 20 years as pastor there. He has served on numerous boards in Berks County and in the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ. Steve has presented papers at numerous sessions of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the American Academy of Religion.
Steve married Dr. Christina Ohnsman in 1985 and they have two children – Matthew, 26, and Rachel, 23. They live in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.
