Soul Cafe

September 18, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

September 18, 2018 – Is Suffering Necessary?
October 16, 2018 – The Dark Night of the Soul
November 20, 2018 – River of Consciousness

Sandy Long will help us in our contemplation of the meaning of suffering in various religious traditions and how we can face pain and suffering in our own lives. This will be the subject for the September and October sessions. This is Sandy’s description:

Is Suffering Necessary?

The world’s major religions all have their own answers to this question. Since we will devote the next two Soul Cafe meetings to discussing this, we will confine ourselves this month to exploring the beliefs that we have received from Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism. I will share what I have discovered through researching this question and then ask you to join in with questions, comments and a sharing of your own beliefs, if you wish. We will continue the discussion next month by addressing the subject of depression with both spiritual and psychological causes and remedies. When time permits − either this month or next − I will also present some of what beliefs our culture propagates through its literature and memes.

Soul Café meets at the Wyomissing Restaurant, 1245 Penn Avenue, Wyomissing, at 10:00 a.m. on the third Tuesday of the month. All are welcome. You can buy breakfast at the buffet or just a cup of coffee. Conversation and fellowship are free.
