Contemplative Spirituality – “The Music of the Soul”

January 12, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Contemplative Spirituality is a smaller discussion group that has explored various forms of spiritual expression and practice, such as meditation, labyrinth walking, mystical states of consciousness, and the various modes of communication with God and with one another.

“THE MUSIC OF THE SOUL”
Craig H. Bennett

Music not only speaks to our present state of mind but is also indicative of where we have come from, including our ethnicity and the events of our lives.

“Music of the Soul” might be understood in either (or both) of two ways: music composed for any given occasion or purpose but that nevertheless penetrates TO and touches the soul of the listener; and music inspired by feelings that emanate FROM the soul and are given expression through a musical composition. Together, these slightly different conceptions account for music in a variety of genres, some familiar and some not.

Craig H. Bennett holds degrees from Ursinus College and the Johns Hopkins University. He served in the U.S. Navy as a musician in the Naval Academy Band and percussion instructor and arranger for the Naval Academy drum and bugle corps. He has also worked as an on-camera and voice-over actor in the Philadelphia and New York markets. He is presently retired from the two-year college faculty of Valley Forge Military Academy and College in Wayne.
