Zwingli is a welcoming and diverse congregation that strives to provide a nurturing place for spiritual growth, service, fellowship and community engagement. We believe worship is the heart of the church’s life. Seeking to glorify God, worship blends a variety of styles and music and embraces the participation of members of all ages. We are blessed with an active educational program, youth group and other small group ministries. Among other special events, Zwingli organizes a Holiday House Tour in December and hosts a music series throughout the year.
God’s call to serve has inspired a passion for mission. We’ve been connected with the Interfaith Hospitality Network since 1998, housing homeless families at our church the month of April, a ministry involving 70-80 volunteers! Mission trips to Haven of Hope in Philadelphia and Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, MS in recent years have deepened our faith practice. A 5 for 5 congregation, we joyfully support CROP Walk, Philabundance, Keystone Opportunity Center, the local Boys and Girls Club, Bethany Children’s Home and much more!
Founded in 1887, Zwingli moved to its Wile Avenue location in 1962. Suffering a devastating fire in June 2008, the congregation was displaced for over three years. We worshipped at the Boys and Girls Club on Sundays, seven other locations for special services, with offices in another town. Thanks to God’s grace, the faith of Zwingli’s members, and the generosity and help of so many in the community, we were able to continue vital ministry and mission while rebuilding. Though overjoyed to return in 2011, we came to appreciate deeply that the church is indeed the people!
Seeking to center our lives in Christ, and to be faithful to God in a constantly changing world, we’ve been inspired to develop a 2020 vision. Please discover more at www.zwingli.org!
