Interfaith LGBTQIA+ Cultural Competency Training
On May 9 at Boehm’s United Church of Christ (571 Penllyn-Blue Bell Pike, Blue Bell) beginning at 9:00 am.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning, Intersex, and Allied (LGBTQIA+) people are often subject to erasure in faith communities, alongside rejection from families, social supports, and other systems. This systematic abuse leads LGBTQIA+ individuals to have significantly higher rates of depression, suicide, substance abuse and homelessness, to name just a few harmful outcomes.
This training, presented by Todd Snovel of the Pennsylvania Commission on LGBTQ Affairs and coordinated by the Montgomery County LGBT Business Council and Boehm’s United Church of Christ, will help to promote safe, competent, and supportive care and welcoming environments of faith for LGBTQIA+ people.
Training Goals and Objectives
– Explore personal values regarding LGBTQIA+ people.
– Identify issues of risk, challenges and strengths specific to LGBTQIA+ individuals and their families.
-Increase competence in discussing sexual orientation and gender identity.
-Identify affirmative interventions and community resources for LGBTQIA+ individuals and their families.
3 contact hours of CEU for United Church of Christ clergy are available for participation in this training. Please note that attendees must attend the full training to receive credit (luncheon is optional).
