DESCRIPTION:Workshop: What to do if ICE comes to your congregation:\nGet Prepared\, Get Organized \nFor free registration and the zoom link\, click here. \nA recent policy change that offers the Department of Homeland Security allowing greater leeway for immigration enforcement in “sensitive locations\,” including houses of worship has rightly stirred the ire of religious communities around the county and in our Conference. Our UCC tradition affirms that God’s presence is not limited to any one place\, yet we also recognize the power of setting apart sacred spaces for worship\, reflection\, and action. A consecrated church space is not just a building—it is a sovereign space where God’s presence is acknowledged\, where Christ is proclaimed\, and where the Spirit moves freely among God’s people. It is a place where heaven and earth meet. \nSeveral of our Conference congregations are deeply engaged in immigration work. All of our congregations have a holy responsibility to protect the sovereign sanctity of their sacred places. \nAs the Trump Administration rescinds the sensitive locations memo\, which blocked ICE from entering congregations\, and ICE escalates its enforcement\, congregations need to be informed\, connected and ready. \nNew Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia will be holding a workshop to prepare your congregation that will cover: \n\nUpdates about the memo and ICE activity\nWhat to do if ICE comes to your congregation\, is outside\, or tries to enter\, and what are your rights\nPrepare a plan with staff and members\nPrevention steps – preparing your space\, putting up signs\, talking with staff and leaders\nTactics of noncooperation – grounded in our faith values to love our enemies\, we will explore tactics of nonviolence\n\nWho this is for: \n\nCongregations with immigrant members.\nLeadership in the congregation – clergy\, religious and lay who will be part of putting a plan together or implementing the plan. We have a limit of 4 people per congregation.

DESCRIPTION:The Conference Ministers of the four Pennsylvania UCC Conferences will host a Service of the Reaffirmation of Ordination Vows for ordained clergy on Maundy Thursday\, April 17\, at 11:00a via ZOOM.  The Rev. Dr. Carrie Call will deliver the sermon. \nIt’s a long-standing custom in liturgical traditions for clergy to gather on the same day Jesus offered “a new commandment”– to love and serve one another– for the reaffirmation of their ordination. We hope this will be an experience of spiritual encouragement and connection. \nClergy are encouraged to wear a stole received at their ordination\, a red stole\, or any other stole that has significant meaning. The Zoom meeting space will open at 1:45 PM. The Zoom information is at the bottom of this email. \nRev. Alan Miles\, our dedicated moderator\, is entering the project phase of his Doctoral program and will not be serving a second term. Caroline Dunleavy\, our Vice Moderator\, has graciously agreed to assume the role of Moderator when Alan’s term ends\, as is our custom. \nOur by-laws state the moderator and vice-moderator roles should be filled by one lay person and one clergy\, with a two-year term\, not to exceed the two-term limit stipulated. To that end\, we are accepting clergy nominations for Vice-Moderator. For questions regarding this role\, please contact either Alan or Caroline. \nWe also need clergy nominations to fill one position on the Committee on Ministry. See Elaine Ely for details. \nPlease remember\, this organization works when we all do our part.

DESCRIPTION:Theology with a Twist meets at the Kutztown Tavern at 272 W Main St\, Kutztown\, PA 19530. We gather in the upper room of the tavern the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm for a time of learning and discussion about a variety of spiritual\, religious\, and theological topics presented by local experts in their field. The event is free but food and drink can be purchased in the restaurant downstairs and brought up to our event space. Parking is available in the community lot behind the tavern or on Main Street. All are welcome!
