DESCRIPTION:This event will be re-scheduled in early 2025.\nApologies for any inconvenience this may cause. \n  \nJoe Birli\, CEO of Bethany Children’s Home\, will offer a first-hand perspective of familial Human Trafficking as that is happening in our local communities and around the nation. Participants will learn how young people are targeted and groomed over generations along with therapeutic interventions and shared experiences of victims trafficked that have survived to live successful lives.\nClinical case studies\, a review of the personal and professional journey of a familial human sex trafficking individual will be shared and discussed to help participants understand how human trafficking happens around us\, and how grooming has changed through the decades (with use of technology).\nFurther exploration into the need for advocacy\, funding\, creating safe harbor laws and prevention programs\, as well as training opportunities in assessment and treatment will be discussed. After attending this session\, participants will have encountered the lived experience of one specific individual who has survived being trafficked through a familial trafficker. Participants will hear the journey of horror and healing\, and how people can use impactful interventions for trafficking trauma\, allowing for individuals to not remain captive to their trafficking experiences. \nFaith communities are invited to an educational and thought provoking conversation on how to recognize and respond to Adverse Religious Experiences (ARE’s) and Religious Trauma (RT). Many of the people we serve come to us with these adverse experiences and traumas and have not received adequate psychospiritual care to help them heal and recover. Using defined terms\, current data\, and case studies participants will gain awareness of AREs and Religious Trauma and their intergenerational impacts. We will also explore how certain faith doctrines and belief systems can cause an ingrained trauma response loop in the nervous system. The presenter will introduce the Shepley Religious Trauma Screening Tool and provide guidance on how to best utilize the tool in congregational settings. \nFacilitators:  Dr. Joseph T. Birli and Rev. Dr. Rose Shepley \n(Session Disclaimer: The stories and case study for this session include some graphic and disturbing material\, therefore\, participants should be aware prior to attending for potential trauma triggers and take precautions for self-care). \n

Through exploring the Mandatory Reporting laws in Pennsylvania\, the UCC Ministerial Code of Ethics\, participants will have a clearer sense of the times when the boundaries around received information need to broken\, and when they should not. SUMMARY:Theology With a Twist:  Spiritual Motivation
DESCRIPTION:Theology with a Twist meets at the Kutztown Tavern at 272 W Main St\, Kutztown\, PA 19530. We gather in the upper room of the tavern the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm for a time of learning and discussion about a variety of spiritual\, religious\, and theological topics presented by local experts in their field. The event is free but food and drink can be purchased in the restaurant downstairs and brought up to our event space. Parking is available in the community lot behind the tavern or on Main Street. All are welcome!

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to all our pastors across the four UCC Conferences in Pennsylvania. Join us for a time of collegiality\, spiritual renewal and education for authorized ministries and members in discernment.\nShould you attend? Hear these words from a first time attendee from this past year’s event:\n“The memorable moments from my first United Church of Christ Pastors’ convocation will remain in my heart and spirit for years to come! \nAttending convocations is a wonderful\, warm way to get to know so many other pastors who serve our denomination\, and I was greeted so lovingly by so many people\, the majority of whom for the very first time. The atmosphere is very informal and joyous\, and I felt very much as though I had joined a new\, loving family. \nThe topics discussed were subjects that were timely and interesting\, such as a session about how to design a flexible and fulfilling pastoral career\, and another session about how to handle finances as a pastor. \nBut my best moment\, especially for a newly ordained ministry\, was a pair of warm\, welcoming arms! Those arms were wrapped around my shoulders in a hug and the words I’ll never forget were softly said to me: “We are so glad you are here with us\, and you are now a part of us.
