SUMMARY:Better Together: Exploring Enhanced Church Ministry Through Merger
DESCRIPTION:Many churches in our covid informed society are exploring the best way to maintain their ministry during a time of decline. Several churches in this season have found merging with another congregation to be a life giving decision that energizes both congregations and produces a new ministry that is equipped for the church of today and tomorrow. Merging churches is not an easy decision or an easy process\, but when done well many congregations have discovered that they are better together. This workshop is for church leaders who are anywhere in the process of discerning church merger. \nFacilitator: Rev. Cean James \nBetter Together Flyer \nTo register\, click here.

SUMMARY:PSEC Addiction Task Force Training for Pen Pals
DESCRIPTION:Lord\, when did we see you sick or in prison and visit thee? \nAnd the King will answer them\, “Truly I say to you\, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren you did it to me.” \nThe practice of visiting with men and women while in prison is perhaps one of the least practiced traits of discipleship on the list. Members and congregations often make charitable gifts for the sake of the poor\, the homeless\, those suffering from personal or environmental accidents. Members in congregations routinely remember\, pray for\, and visit those whom we know are sick. But to visit the imprisoned? For the most part that does not happen. This is for a variety of very legitimate reasons: ignorance of the mostly hidden population\, institutional restrictions\, and fear and prejudice. Yet the call of the Christ still exists. \nThe PSEC Addiction Task Force is now working with Rev. Russ Gates\, former Chaplain at Phoenix Maximum Security State Prison (in Graterford) to raise awareness of the people held in our criminal justice system and to remember that they too are children of God and worthy of our compassion. We hope to offer our conference an email “Pen Pal” program (pun intended). This program would give some especially caring individuals a safe and effective way to communicate with some inmate electronically. The purpose is to simply relate person to person and give that stranger some hope of knowing that others care about their wellbeing. \nThe communication would be through a secure App\, sanctioned by the Department of Corrections. No personal phone or address information would be exchanged. \nIf you are interested in learning more about this act of discipleship\, we welcome you to attend an informational/training event led by Russ Gates. \nTo register\, click here.

SUMMARY:One Shepherd\, Two Flocks: Practical Advice and Guidance on Sharing A Pastor
DESCRIPTION:One Shepherd\, Two Flocks: Practical Advice and Guidance on Sharing A Pastor \nThe Rev. Kevin McLemore and others will be conducting a free workshop\, via zoom\,  on why sharing a pastor with another congregation is a good option for many congregations in this time of pastoral scarcity.\nPastor McLemore and others will share practical strategies on how to talk to your congregation about this possibility\, how to find a pastor and congregation willing to do so\, and how other churches are already doing it successfully. Pastors who currently pastor two congregations will join us to share both the blessings and challenges of this arrangement\, and how to avoid some of the mistakes they’ve witnessed in their own settings. \nFor free registration\, click here.

SUMMARY:Advanced Boundary Training: Managing Pastoral Transitions
DESCRIPTION:Transitions for clergy moving between churches and for clergy moving into retirement has always been a challenge\, even for those with health boundaries. In this ZOOM workshop\, we’ll explore best practices for clergy who are transitioning into new churches\, and the boundaries needed with the congregations they have ceased serving. The workshop will include case studies\, small group discussion\, and a set of guidelines that can avoid some of the common ethical mistakes made during seasons of transition. \nFacilitators: Revs. Cean James and Kevin J. McLemore \nIF YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS TIME SLOT\, we are offering an option to “view the recording of the event on your own time and complete a one page synopsis of what you viewed”. A page with specific question(s) will be emailed to you with the recording link. This option is available in the ticket section. \nTo register\, click here.

SUMMARY:Men's Clergy Retreat 2023
DESCRIPTION:Clergymen\, give yourself the gift of joining the PSEC/PNEC Clergy Men’s Retreat\, October 3rd through the 5th. Take a step back from all the demands that are placed on you\, step out of your comfort zone with friends you can trust\, rest and spend some time in nature. Engage in thoughtful conversation that will help give perspective on life’s biggest obstacles and have some fun. Guys from the Retreat Planning Committee will facilitate conversation based on Richard Reeves book Of Boys and Men. You don’t have to read the book to be on the retreat and our conversations will go far afield from that text. So feed your soul to strengthen your ministry this October at Kirkridge. \nTo register\, click here.
