Dr. Katherine Willis Pershey will discuss the book:\n“When Church Stops Working: A Future for Your Congregation Beyond More Money\, Programs\,  and Innovation by Andrew Root & Blair D. Bertrand”\n PROGRAM: What if the solution for the decline of today’s church isn’t more money\, people\, programs\, innovation\, or busyness? What if the answer is to stop and wait on God. The authors show how actively watching and listening to God can bring life out of death for churches in crisis today. Using clear steps and practices they invite church leaders to stop the endless cycle of doing more and rather to simply “be” in God’s presence.\nOUR SPEAKER: Katherine Willis Pershey serves as one of the co-pastors at First Congregational Church United Church of Christ in Appleton\, Wisconsin. She enjoys congregational ministry\, and is deeply grateful for her primary vocation. She previously served churches in California and Illinois. She love to write\, and has published work in a number of genres. Her most recent book “Love Letters to God” was co-authored with Devon Spencer. DESCRIPTION:Meeting to be held via zoom.\n1:45 – 2:00 pm – Time of Gathering\n2:00 pm – Meeting\n2:45 pm – Program \nPROGRAM: ONA and the Bible: Out of 31\,000 verses in the Bible\, just a few are often a stumbling block for churches that want to welcome and support their LGBTQ members and neighbors. But what else does the Bible say about our relationships with each other and with God? How can the Bible help a church explore the basic values that inform a conversation about human sexuality and gender identity? And how can a congregation understand the few texts that are often cited to condemn same-sex relationships? \nOUR SPEAKER: Andy Lang is a professional church communicator.  Andy was a newspaper reporter and public relations specialist in Washington\, D.C.  In 1994\, he founded the UCC’s first national website at www.ucc.org and went on to lead the church’s web and social media team. He has been the ONA Coalition’s executive director since 2010.  Since Andy joined the ONA Coalition in 2010\, the ONA movement has grown from 850 to more than 1\,500 churches. His passion is to reach every congregation until the UCC is “100% ONA.
