St. Peter’s UCC, Orwin: April 5, 2015

St. Peter’s, Orwin began as a Lutheran and Reformed Church in 1856, and is one of the oldest churches in our vicinity. The Village of Orwin is located in the southwestern corner of Schuylkill County in Porter Township. This year Pastor Maureen Duffy-Guy accepted the call to shepherd our flock. Pastor Maureen also serves Trinity UCC in neighboring Tower City. St. Peter’s regularly receives the 5 for 5 Award for contributing to all five United Church of Christ offerings.

Three confirmands joined St. Peter’s as new members this St.PeterOrwin1Spring. The photo shows members of the 1st and 2nd year confirmation class students with mentors on a weekend retreat at Camp Hebron.

St.PeterOrwin2God has blessed us at St. Peter’s, and we in turn bless others. St Peter’s hosts the Tower City Stamper Group, who create greeting cards of all types to give to residents of nursing homes and others. The prayer shawl knitters have been clicking their needles for several years, presenting comforting prayer shawls to over 300 folk. The Ladies Aid Society and Breakfast club meet monthly providing support in many ways to worship, fundraising and social events. St. Peter’s Congregation generously contributes to OCWM and many local charities and organizations. St. Peter’s is handicapped accessible and has ample parking. We met our budget last year, and average attendance this year so far is 54! Children and adults enjoy Sunday school. Our Bible study with Trinity UCC welcomes all to a monthly breakfast out. We have a rich history, and we count our blessings, knowing God always has more blessings to give! To learn more, visit our website.
