Salem UCC is located at 186 E. Court Street in Doylestown 18901 a few blocks from Bucks County Courthouse. Since 1861, Salem has had a vibrant and active ministry with the Doylestown community. The church is noted for the historic Mercer Tiles which adorn both sides of the altar.
Worship, outreach, and mission have been at the core of Salem’s ministry throughout the years. Among the many mission activities we support are A Woman’s Place, local food banks, FISH, Maasai (Africa), and Meals on Wheels.
Sunday School children attend worship with their parents and leave for class after the weekly children’s message. The curriculum includes study of Bible stories, music and a focus on service. This year the children mingled and brought cookies to residents at a local nursing home. An adult education class meets regularly to view and discuss the “Living the Questions” DVD curriculum as we seek to be an even greater witness to Christ’s message of peace, love, and justice.
Community groups, including AA, Al-Anon, Jazz 4 Nothin’, Rainbow Room for teenagers, and a preschoolers’ music class meet at Salem. Salem is a site for Red Cross blood drives and regular community concerts featuring various musical groups. Our Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast attracts parade goers. Prime Timers is a monthly gathering for lunch and entertainment for everyone, especially those in the prime of their lives. Advent concerts with complimentary soup luncheons, the Rummage Sale and Steak Dinner are beloved traditions.
Salem’s Little Free Library, the second one in Doylestown, is situated near the Meditation Garden. Both serve the community as a respite from the day’s cares and are a delight for children and adults.
Currently our Sunday worship is traditional with our chancel choir providing inspirational music. We welcome the community to all our services including our Christmas Eve Candlelight Services and Easter Sunrise Service at Lake Galena.
All are welcome at Salem Church! www.DoylestownSalemUCC.org.
