Grace Christian Fellowship, UCC (GCF) began as a bible study meeting in the home of Rev. and Sis. Cean R. James during the summer of 2005. From that bible study, twenty-two (22) people became the initial members of GCF. During the initial organizational meetings, GCF decided to make southwest Philadelphia the target community for its evangelism and ministry.
Thanks to exponential growth that quickly resulted in a membership of over 100 people and many visitors each Sunday, in October 2006, GCF purchased a church building from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. On Thanksgiving Day, 2006, GCF had their first worship service in their new sanctuary located at 6208 Grays Avenue.
In April of 2012, after years of prayer and discernment, GCF officially became a congregation of the United Church of Christ. Also that year, we launched GCF Mt. Airy, an early Sunday morning extension of our church that worships at Woodcrest United Church of Christ at Mt. Pleasant and Thouron Ave. Today, GCF has a membership of over 450 and is growing every week. We are:
WELCOMING – Every person, no matter where you are on life’s journey, will find a warm and inviting community among us.
WORSHIPING – We take seriously the call to worship Him in spirit and in truth.
WORKING – We believe that we have been called to work for the right of all our brothers and sisters to live in dignity.
WALKING – We believe that faith is a journey, and we are walking together to reach the prize of high calling.
WITNESSING – We have been so blessed by what God has done for us, that we feel compelled to tell someone else.
Sunday Morning Worship is 8 am in Mt Airy (at Woodcrest UCC) and 10:30 am in SW Philadelphia. Bible Study is every Wednesday at 7 pm at our SW Philadelphia location. To learn more, visit mygcf.com.
