In the village of Carversville (3736 Aquetong Road, 18913) in eastern Bucks County you will find a lovely stone church built in 1866, on the site of the original 1837 building. The church grew out of the Congregational-Christian tradition, and is believed to be the only such church in the PSEC. Updates have occurred through the years and an education/ administrative wing was added in 1987.
In July 2010 a devastating fire destroyed the steeple, and caused much smoke and water damage in the sanctuary. Fourteen months later the grateful congregants were able to return to worship in their restored sanctuary, having worshipped in the church grove, a neighbor’s barn and in the church social hall in the interim.
A long-standing tradition is the Oyster and Pork dinner held annually since 1871. This dinner not only raises funds for the church, but serves as a fellowship event for the larger community and the membership.
For close to 25 years, several members have continued to provide a worship service on the first Sunday of the month for the residents of a Doylestown nursing home. Present mission projects include supporting a high school student in Kenya, as well as supporting the Masaai mission whereby funds have helped the residents to build wells, which have greatly improved the quality of life for the natives. For the last several years members have participated in Operation Christmas Child. This year 70 shoeboxes were filled for children around the world who might otherwise not have a Christmas. Members also support the Doylestown Food Pantry throughout the entire year. We are proud to have sponsored Boy Scout Troop 64 since 1944.
Throughout our 175th anniversary year, celebratory worship services, meals and other activities were enjoyed by not only the members, but friends in the community as well. The faith and determination that inspired the founders and succeeding members is still evident in the membership today. The community of faith at Carversville Christian Church, UCC is as strong as ever, looking toward the future and continuing to fulfill our calling to worship God and serve Christ in the world.
