October 22 – Domestic/Family Violence Awareness Sunday @ Calvary UCC, Barto

This year’s women-led Service of Worship at Calvary UCC on Sunday, October 22nd will focus on domestic and family violence awareness. Often we think of domestic/family violence in terms of physical abuse, however, there are other forms of abuse and oppression. The oppressor frequently uses verbal, emotional, spiritual, financial, and social abuse to violate their victims. All forms of abuse go against the way Jesus calls us to live. All forms of abuse leave scars. All forms of abuse deny the love, the grace, the mercy of our God. Please join us as we leave the shadows and shine the light of God on abuse of all forms of domestic/family violence.
The month of October is designated as Domestic/Family Violence Awareness month and the color associated with this recognition is purple. Consider wearing purple to support those who live lives shattered by abuse at the hands of someone they loved and trusted. The service will begin at 10:15 am and the church is located at 1231 Route 100 Barto PA 19504. If you should have questions you may reach us at 610-652-5023 or www.calvaryuccbarto.org

November 16 – Biblical Game of Thrones @ Trinity UCC, Telford

is a series of fantasy novels written by the American author George R.R. Martin.  It was converted into an HBO television series and became a huge hit.  People are intrigued with the issues of power, control, competition, vengeance, remorse, and greed.   The characters in these stories are often faced with decisions that force them to choose between good and evil : their love for those close to them and the greater interests of honor, duty, and the state.  Although Game of Thrones in this case is a fantasy, the issues are very real in all stages of humanity.

We might say Game of Thrones is a continual Biblical story.  The entire scriptural account may be said to be a game, or contest, or struggle in the battle between good and evil: the King of the Universe and sinful humanity.

Our monthly table talks will follow that story. The series will track the dynamic
encounters between the King of Kings and the kings on earth.  By following these
stories, along with reading N. T. Wright’s book How God Became King, Harper One, 2012, we will explore (in Wright’s words) the forgotten story of the Gospels as well as how the great salvation story unfolds.

Next monthly table talk – November 16th

Huff’s Union Church, Alburtis: May 1, 2016

200th birthday celebration for the 1815 cornerstoneMHuff’s Union Church (ELCA and UCC) goes back to 1744 on the UCC side, and to 1760 on the Lutheran side. After worshiping in the same building for many years, they decided, after
the Formula of Agreement made it possible, to call one pastor for both congregations. Huff’s called Pastor Jane Kropa to this position in 2001.

Just because Huff’s has a long history (photo left is ofFall Fun Fest-M our 200th anniversary celebration of the laying of the 1815 cornerstone) doesn’t mean it’s stuck in its history. Huff’s renovated its buildings to make them worship-friendly, and in 2014 added a contemporary worship service once a month called “Manna” to provide spiritual bread in the wilderness.

Pet Blessing-MWith their sister congregation, St. Peter’s Union, they hold a hunger/homeless walk annually. Huff’s has an annual “Love Sunday” and asks for gift cards which are given to one of the three local agencies they support. The Easter Story Egg Hunt is a popular chance to tell the story of Holy Week at a variety of activity stations, before hunting candy-filled eggs. At the congregation’s request, Pastor Kropa offers a QPR (question, persuade, refer) suicide prevention program for non-professionals twice a year, which is advertised to the public. In the fall they host a pet blessing and offer a family fun fest with fall activities and games.

Heidelberg UCC, Schwenksville: March 19, 2017

HUCC,S 3-29-16-1“We are a welcoming church family who seeks to reflect and grow in God’s love through worship, prayer, fellowship, study and service.”

Located atop of the hill at 251 Perkiomen Ave., Schwenksville, PA., Heidelberg United Church of Christ traces its roots back to the 18th century when German immigrants brought their religious traditions to the Perkiomen Valley. The original building was shared by Reformed, Lutheran and Mennonite congregations. The current stone structure was constructed in 1892 by the reformed (Now UCC) congregation. We also have a parsonage on-site was built in 1910. The current layout of the church includes a social hall and educational wing. But as we know the church is more than just the building.

Heidelberg’s many committees continue to bring God’s light to the congregation and the community. From our Board of Christian Education, providing vacation Bible school, and Sunday school, (to children and adults alike), to our Fellowship committee hosting Bunco or a chili cookoff, to our Evangelism committee, who plan our joint worship services with neighboring churches, to our Spiritual Arts, who express their love of the Lord through music at all of our services. The Missions committee prepares and serves meals to the homeless at Trinity UCC in Pottstown, supports the Daily Bread Community Food Pantry with personnel and food items, and supports of the Woman Center of Montgomery County.

Please keep us in your prayers. To learn more, visit our website: hucc.net.
