Day 1: July 9 – 2 years to the day after our 15 hour bus trip to NYE, a quieter ride to Susquehanna University for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Youth Event 2014. The bus left from Living Water UCC in Philadelphia and stopped to pick up many more of our PSEC friends at Good Shepherd UCC near Reading. We arrived at 1pm to register and settle in before dinner and a full evening of worship, music and speakers, followed by an ice cream social! — at Susquehanna University.
Day 2: July 10 – Pictures of the PSEC from the busy second day at MARYE!
Day 3: July 11 – Day 3 was highlighted by the performance of the drumming group Sheltered Reality with many opportunities to join them on stage!
Day 4, Part 1: July 12 – Day 4 was a very busy day with a morning gathering, workshops, and the afternoon carnival, followed by evening worship.

HOT DOGS AND HAMBURGERS – RED. RUTH E. SHAVER
One of the important presentations to the youth at MARYE was an introduction to the UCC literacy campaign encouraging everyone in the UCC to read the book: “Hot Dogs and Hamburgers: Unlocking Life’s Potential by Inspiring Literacy at Any Age” by Rob Shindler. While this is listed as a September event, now might be a good time to include this in your summer reading. This video is the presentation at MARYE by Rev. Ruth E. Shaver, pastor of The United Church of Schellsburg (Penn West Conference). Please share this book with your friends!
A video clip from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Youth Event last month: Friday featured ‘Sheltered Reality’, a choreographed drum line that teaches personal empowerment & Steps of Success through music. This clip features performances by several familiar PSEC faces: Rev. Patti Thomas, pastor of St. Paul’s UCC Sellersville, Rev. Josh Blakesley, pastor of the United Church of Christ in Warminster, & Sydney Schollenberger, one of our active youth from Zion’s UCC in Pottstown. Enjoy and share!
Sacred Dance at MARYE – July 12, 2014
This video features sacred dance which took place during worship at MARYE on July 12. A number of our PSEC delegates are featured (those in the blue ‘puzzle’ shirts and others) and I promised that night this would be recorded on video and posted so here it is, the first video posted from MARYE here!
Reflections from Attendees
MARYE Reflection from Suzanne Arner, Huff’s Union Church in Alburtis
What a great Mid-Atlantic Regional Youth Event this year! Four years ago, I attended as a youth; this year, I attended as a young adult. In many ways, MARYE 2014 was better than MARYE 2010. Worship was much more memorable, the music was phenomenal (between 3 Shades of Blue, Sheltered Reality, and Sacred Dance, my mind was blown), the speakers held my attention and taught me a lot, and the workshops were very informative. Just like last time, I feel that Susquehanna is a great facility for an event like this. Click to read more.
MARYE Reflection from St. Paul’s UCC in Sellersville
From the moment our bus pulled up in front of Susquehanna University, we all knew that the Mid-Atlantic Regional youth Event was going to be a dynamite experience. Some of our favorite highlights are: Click to read more.
